In 1988, Gary Fish established a small brewpub in downtown Bend, Oregon, named after the Deschutes River. He aimed to create a space for friends, family, and neighbors to gather over house-brewed beer. Today, Deschutes Brewery sells over 225,000 barrels of beer annually and has expanded to multiple locations, including a pub in downtown Portland. Their mission remains focused on building community through great beer. Deschutes Brewery is committed to sustainability and supports various non-profit organizations, emphasizing diversity, conservation, and youth services. They also run a program called 'Pints with a Purpose', donating $1 from every pint sold on Tuesdays to a local non-profit. The brewery strives to lessen its environmental impact and is recognized as a Green Power Partner through the EPA.
