Free Geek launched on Earth Day 2000 as part of a community-wide public event at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland. Since then, it has evolved to include Digital Inclusion programming to support education, free technology access, digital literacy, and workforce development. The organization aims to bridge the digital divide by refurbishing donated technology and distributing it to the community at no or low cost. Free Geek's mission is to foster a vibrant community where individuals can unlock their full potential through technology and education. Through its dedicated efforts, Free Geek strives to transform the world by leveraging technology, sustainability, and education to create a brighter, more inclusive future. The organization collects over 1 million pounds of e-waste per year, ensuring that as much technology as possible is reused or recycled responsibly. Free Geek also offers various community programs and classes to help individuals gain the skills they need to thrive in a digital world.
